Job Description
Position:

Courseware Credit Recovery Program Middle School Science/Social Studies Instructor

Employment Term:

Summer Courseware Credit Recovery Program will be M-F for 5 weeks and include all holidays. Half days, three hours of instruction and half day for staff. Successful applicant must work during program operation.

Salary:

Pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-2, in accordance with Jefferson County Professional Salary Schedule, commensurate with experience and education level.

FLSA Status:

Exempt

June 15, 2026 – July 9, 2026

Prep Day:

June 12, 2026 – 1/2 day

Job Summary:

Provides appropriate instruction, learning activities, and experiences that ensure all students meet the learning objectives and standards for the appropriate content and grade level.

The estimated number of positions needed may change based on actual enrollment.

Major Position Responsibilities / Essential Functions

Plan and implement WV content standards and high-quality secondary learning objectives, instruct students using effective instructional strategies, and provide appropriate learning experiences with high expectations for all.

Implement adopted and supplemental academic programs.

Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.

Participate as a contributing member of the relevant, assigned department or program.

Keep appropriate records and prepare progress reports as assigned.

Analyze data to improve instruction and model instructional strategies that promote student achievement.

Communicate with parents through a variety of means, including conferences, to discuss student progress and interpret academic program objectives and requirements.

Provide learning experiences designed to meet individual needs through individual and/or group instruction.

Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in and out of the classroom by providing a safe and secure environment.

Maintain an effective learning environment free of hazard, ridicule and prejudice.

Assist with student management throughout the building, grounds and/or other JCS facilities.

Coordinate parent/teacher and student/teacher conferences to review student performance, behavior, and other issues.

Perform various administrative duties such as taking attendance, organizing the classroom, and responding to emails and phone calls from parents, school administrators, and staff in a timely manner.

Comply with all requirements for mandatory reporting of child abuse, illegal harassment, breaches of ethics, or any criminal activity of which the employee becomes aware.

Effectively communicate with students, parents, and other stakeholders via verbal and written communication.

Be accountable for individual student achievement and provide grades in accordance with the school’s grading policy and procedures.

May be responsible for planning and implementing designated co-curricular activities and/or programs such as curricular fairs, awards programs, and field trips.

Show strong working/communication skills with students, parents, peers, and the community.

Foster a classroom climate conducive to learning.

Meet professional responsibilities and maintain professional work habits adhering to the Employee Code of Conduct.

Willing to implement and participate in programs and activities designated by the principal for school improvement.

Adhere to and enforce School Board policies when appropriate.

Maintain a professional development plan according to district policies and strive to improve professional competencies.

Perform supervisory or other duties as assigned by the Principal.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and university. Valid teaching certificate licensing the individual to teach in the specializations and grade levels of the assigned endorsement area, pursuant to WV Code §18A-3-2; Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c and/or §18A-3-10, as appropriate; Meet the qualifications outlined in WV Code §18A-3-2a.

Physical / Mental Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to reach, stand, walk, lift, grasp, write, talk, hear, see, use technology such as computers and multimedia equipment, and use repetitive motions. The employee may frequently lift and/or move at least 10 pounds of materials. Specific vision abilities required include close vision to read handwritten or typed material.
