Job Summary
This critical role provides the full range of support necessary for regular, terminal, and isolation cleaning. Perform daily maintenance and major restoration of hard and carpeted surface areas in accordance with department and Wellstar Health System policies and procedures. Conduct project cleaning of walls, entrances, common areas, windows, vents, sidewalks, and other assigned areas. Adhere to all policies and procedures set by Wellstar Health System and the department. Actively participate in outstanding customer service and accept responsibility in maintaining respectful relationships with all stakeholders.

General Duties
Responsible for proper removal, placement, and transportation of waste (solid, chemotherapy, bio‑hazard, pharmaceutical, & hot), recyclables, and other regulated materials. Proper use of ultraviolet light devices. Changing out, removal, and replacement of containers (sharps, pharmacy waste, bio‑hazard, and chemotherapy). Must possess customer service and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with staff, guests, patients and families.

Core Responsibilities

Analyze carpeted and hard surface floors and apply correct maintenance procedures. Perform cleaning using the steps process in all assigned areas.

Assist in cleanup of emergency spills as requested or observed.

Perform floor care duties including stripping and refinishing hard surface floors, deep cleaning carpets, and maintenance processes related to floor care.

Remove trash and linen, ensuring proper waste stream guidelines and protocols based on waste type (solid waste, bio‑waste, chemotherapy waste, pharmaceutical waste, etc.). Transport hazardous waste from generation to a designated secure storage area. Complete initial and refresher training on hazardous waste handling, personal protective equipment selection, and disposal.

Monitor and report any equipment issues or shortages. Stock supplies.

Access secure medication rooms for cleaning purposes only.

Perform required performance maintenance (PMs) on battery‑operated and cord‑operated floor care equipment.

Perform the full range of restroom and patient room cleaning, following the cleaning protocol for regular, terminal, and isolation rooms.

Follow infection prevention protocols and select proper chemicals for cleaning tasks.

Maintain routine cleaning tasks such as dusting, wet mopping, cleaning corners, edges, base coves, kick plates, etc.

Use correct personal protective equipment (PPE) and donning and doffing techniques to ensure personal safety.

Use proper lifting techniques to avoid personal injury.

Comply with all hospital and department rules, policies, and procedures.

Follow protocol for proper and safe use of ultraviolet light equipment.

Place proper type, size, and number of replacement liners in waste containers and complete tie‑off as required.

Work with special project team or projects as assigned by supervisor.

Participate in performance improvement projects as required.

Additional Responsibilities
Perform other duties as assigned. Comply with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.

Training Requirement
The satisfactory completion of the Departmental Training Program must be accomplished during the first thirty (30) days of employment.

Required Minimum Education
High School Diploma (General‑Preferred) or GED (General‑Preferred).

Required Minimum License(s) And Certification(s)
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.

Required Minimum Experience
Some experience (Preferred).

Required Minimum Skills
Fluent English communication skills; ability to read, write, and understand simple instructions in English.
