Part‑Time Lecturer Pool Position

Department of Communication

The Department of Communication prepares students for success through the acquisition of skills in research, critical and cultural analysis, rhetoric, writing, electronic/digital communication, strategic communication, and media production/journalism. It prepares students for a broad array of career paths in public relations, advertising, media production, digital media, corporate and non‑profit communication, news, and many other careers. The Department enjoys a highly diverse student body with more than 400 undergraduates as well as a Master of Arts program. Undergraduate majors choose from among three concentrations: Strategic Communication, Media Production, and Communication & Media Studies.

Teaching assignments may include courses at the Hayward campus, Concord Center, and/or online.

Rank and Salary
Lecturer. Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience. Position appointment is subject to budgetary authorization.

Salary schedule information for the Lecturer – Academic Year Classification (Range 2 to 5):

Range 2: $5,507 – $6,677

Range 3: $6,221 – $13,224

Range 4: $6,825 – $14,523

Range 5: $8,593 – $15,211

The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications: a suitable master’s degree in a relevant specialization; Ph.D. preferred.

Photojournalism and Media Production coursework: candidates with experience producing documentaries, media in other countries, and/or media for social justice are preferred.

All candidates may be asked to provide evidence of scholarship, creative work, or teaching through peer‑review of teaching student‑faculty evaluations, syllabi, course assignments, and samples of student work.
