Essential Job Duties

The department at UNC-Chapel Hill seeks a highly motivated Research Assistant to join our collaborative team. Our department is dedicated to advancing the understanding of trauma recovery and developing interventions that improve outcomes for trauma survivors. The team is made up of researchers, clinicians, and staff who share a passion for discovery, service, and professional growth. Trauma survivors are placed at the center of all we do, and we strive to create a community where every team member can contribute to science while developing their own skills, leadership, and career trajectory. This position is an excellent opportunity for recent college graduates or post-baccalaureate students interested in gaining hands‑on clinical research experience prior to pursuing graduate, medical, or other advanced training.

Key Responsibilities

Support the Principal Investigators, Managing Director, Project Managers, and senior coordinators on several ongoing and upcoming clinical research studies.

Assist with study start‑up activities and regulatory documentation.

Screen and recruit participants, obtain informed consent, and conduct study visits and follow‑up surveys (in‑person and by phone).

Collect, enter, and verify research data with high attention to detail.

Maintain study materials, including manuals of procedures and study logs.

Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team across UNC and partner institutions.

Minimum Experience & Education

Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Department Required Skills

Knowledge of research best practices and regulations.

Demonstrated ability to successfully implement study protocols, recruit and enroll study participants, and collect and maintain data.

Significant attention to detail with the ability to balance multiple competing priorities.

Ability to work with a variety of people in a professional, effective, and diplomatic manner, with excellent communication skills and a strong focus on customer service.

Ability to work independently as well as function as part of a team.

Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training, Education

Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with a genuine interest in patient‑centered research.

Prior research or clinical experience preferred but not required — training will be provided.

Enthusiasm for working in a fast‑paced, collaborative academic research environment.

Job Details
Location: Chapel Hill, NC.

Classification Title: Temporary‑Technical/Paraprofessional.

Working Title: UTS - Temporary Research Assistant at UNC Chapel Hill.

Work Schedule: M‑F, 8:00 am‑5:00 pm (Hybrid).

Other duties as needed.

Time Limited: Yes. Appointment Length: TBD.
