Overview
Franklin Primary Health Center is seeking an Optometric Assistant to support clinical operations in the Vision Department at our Mobile, AL location. This full‑time position reports to the Optometrist and Department Manager and is responsible for assisting with exams, eyewear services, and patient education.
Key Responsibilities
Perform preliminary eye exams and vision testing (visual acuity, color vision, stereopsis, pupillary measurements, tonometry, visual fields)
Prepare patients for dilation, fundus photography, and keratometry
Collect and record eye and medical history; complete patient files
Dispense contact lenses and provide patient education on insertion, removal, and hygiene
Polish PMMA lenses and conduct follow‑up consultations
Assist with eyewear selection, ordering, shipping, inspecting, and dispensing
Maintain eyewear inventory and receive sales representatives
Adjust eyewear and ensure proper fit
Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Optometrist or Department Manager
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required
Minimum 2 years of experience in an optometry office or equivalent training
Certified Paraoptometric (CPO) preferred
Experience in ophthalmology preferred
Strong communication and patient service skills
Work Schedule & Pay
Full‑time • Monday–Friday • Day shift • $14.00–$17.00 per hour • 40 hours per week
