Job Description Summary
Assist licensed clinicians in the provision of direct and indirect patient care on assigned unit.
Responsibilities and Duties
30% – Serves as unit receptionist; assists hospital visitors and staff with information needs, enters physician's orders into the hospital computer system; processes "STAT" and "NOW" orders immediately and notifies the Registered Nurse; enters patient information into the hospital information system (height, weight, condition, etc.); notifies registration department of transfers and discharges; processes patient charges; maintains patient medical records both centralized and decentralized at the bedside; prepares discharge charts; maintains supplies and equipment for clerical operation; inventories, orders, and maintains patient care chart forms.
25% – Performs or assists the patient with activities of daily living (bathing, grooming, eating, walking, etc.); maintains environmental cleanliness and safety; provides assistance to patients, visitors and nursing personnel; helps other departments as needed; creates ideal patient experience through respectful and compassionate relationships; may serve as a patient safety champion; may assist in telemetry cardiac monitoring; may act as transporter; runs errands for patient care.
25% – Performs delegable nursing tasks delegated by the Registered Nurse that can be performed without requiring judgment based on nursing knowledge; includes tasks such as waived testing (fingerstick glucose, urine dipstick), non-sterile specimen collection, nasogastric tube care, 12-lead EKG, simple dressing changes; collects data (height, weight, vital signs, intake/output) and records data; competent with portable technology for measurement and documentation; reports patient observations and concerns to the Registered Nurse.
20% – Assists visitors and staff with information needs, utilizes wireless devices and technology for coordination (scheduling, documentation, nutrition service ordering), may serve as a super user for nursing assistant information technology and preceptor for new nursing assistants, maintains supplies and equipment necessary for patient care operations, secures and handles appropriate supplies, medications, and lab specimens transported from/into and within the unit. Other duties as requested by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications
High School or GED. 16- and 17-year-old individuals without a high school diploma or GED will be considered only if they have a valid work permit. 18-year-old individuals enrolled in high school do not need a high school diploma/GED/work permit to be considered.
