Position Overview
The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as a caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long-term care. The NA delivers resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). The NA provides age-appropriate care related to the resident's physical and psychological needs as per the care plan, follows infection prevention and control policies and personal protective equipment use, and assists with basic health-care needs.

Responsibilities

Provide resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance under RN supervision.

Deliver age-appropriate care according to the resident's physical and psychological needs as per the care plan.

Follow infection prevention and control policies and personal protective equipment use.

Assist with basic health-care activities—bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, recording vital signs, and psychosocial support.

Assist the resident with transferring, repositioning, and walking using correct transfer techniques and equipment; provide range of motion and passive exercises.

Complete tasks related to food preparation and dining, ensuring a positive dining experience.

Assist residents with meals and snacks, providing water and supplements as appropriate.

Aid providers and nursing staff with procedures as needed.

Document resident interactions and outcomes related to care, behavior, activity, and diet.

Communicate changes in the resident's condition and related concerns to the charge nurse.

Provide housekeeping and laundry services to maintain clean living areas.

Assist with wellness and recreational programs and encourage resident participation.

Qualifications

High school graduate or GED preferred (not required).

Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred.

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing required; if not certified, must obtain within four months of start date through a training program or endorsement.

Successfully complete yearly department specific competency testing and maintain continuing education credits.

May be classified as a Sanford Category II Driver requiring a valid motor vehicle license per Sanford Driving Policy, if applicable.
