Independent Contractor – Medical Courier Driver (Texas)
Pay Rate:
Up to $400 per day – per delivery or route-based pay (1099 contract)
We are seeking professional, reliable, compassionate, detail-oriented and experienced Medical Courier Drivers.
Responsibilities
Pick up and deliver medical items (e.g., specimens, prescriptions, equipment, medical records) safely, efficiently, and punctually according to route schedules or on-demand requests.
Handle deliveries with strict adherence to HIPAA, OSHA, and medical handling protocols.
Maintain temperature control and chain of custody requirements for all deliveries including temperature-sensitive or biohazardous materials.
Comply with all applicable laws and regulations, as well as company policies and procedures.
Follow all safety procedures, including cargo securement, hazmat handling (if certified), and emergency protocols.
Operate own insured, reliable vehicle while maintaining fuel efficiency and route optimization.
Use mobile dispatching applications or other communication tools for real-time tracking and updates.
Communicate promptly, clearly, and respectfully with dispatch regarding time of arrival to pick-up and drop-off locations.
Accurately complete delivery documentation including digital signatures, obtain required proof of delivery (POD) images, pickup/drop-off logs, and any compliance paperwork.
Maintain professional appearance and demeanor as a representative of the company while engaging with healthcare personnel.
Perform daily pre-trip, post-trip, and safety inspections and report any issues immediately.
Obey and understand all traffic laws and regulations, including wearing seat belts, following speed limits, right-of-way rules, and traffic signals.
Ensure on-time pick-up and delivery of cargo as scheduled, maintaining strong communication with dispatch and operations team.
Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license with clean and acceptable MVR based on hiring standards:
Clean driving record with no citation or conviction of more than 2 moving violations during a 24‑month period prior to application.
No seat belt violation in the 12 months prior to application.
No cell phone violation within the 12 months prior to application.
No record of DUI/DWI within the past 5 years.
Must pass a background check.
Must pass a DOT drug screening.
Must possess proper auto liability insurance with minimum coverage:
$100,000 per person / $300,000 per accident for bodily injury.
$50,000 for property damage.
Certifications and compliance:
HIPAA certification.
Bloodborne pathogens certification.
OSHA compliance.
DOT compliance.
Hazardous Materials (HazMat) certification (if applicable).
Fraud, Waste, and Abuse (FWA) training (if applicable).
TSA compliance (if applicable).
Must have a smartphone.
Vehicle ownership (own or lease a vehicle suitable for medical deliveries with no major body damage).
Prepared to lift weights up to 50 pounds or more; moderate to heavy physical activity; repetitive daily lifting of at least 50 pounds or more.
Strong attention to detail and time management skills.
Ability to sit for extended periods of time, especially during traffic.
Ability to follow dispatch instructions and complete required training.
Qualifications
Must be 21 years or older.
Valid Georgia driver’s license with clean driving record.
Eager and fully prepared to drive throughout the state of Georgia.
Reliable and well-maintained vehicle (sedan, SUV, small van preferred; temperature-controlled vehicle is a plus).
Excellent time management, customer service, and communication skills.
Compliance with HIPAA and handling procedures for medical items.
Knowledge of Georgia geography, including metro and rural areas, for efficient routing.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous courier, delivery driver, or transportation experience – especially in a medical, pharmaceutical, or logistics setting.
Familiarity with chain of custody procedures.
DOT Medical Card (if operating larger vehicles or driving long distances).
Experience working as an independent contractor (1099 role).
Strong understanding of safety protocols and a safety-first mindset.
Previous experience in roles requiring excellent customer interaction and compassionate care.
Exceptional attention to detail for vehicle inspections, package handling, and record-keeping.
Ability to meet deadlines and optimize delivery routes effectively.
Capability to manage changes in delivery schedules or routes professionally.
Willingness to communicate effectively with dispatch and other team members.
