Join the City of West Allis's Department of Public Works in a hands‑on, entry‑level position where you'll receive full training, gain broad exposure to public works operations, and learn skills that directly support essential city services. What you'll do
Assist at residential drop‑off sites
Build, deliver, and maintain refuse and recycling carts
Support bulk and brush collection crews
Assist crewmembers on garbage and recycling routes
Pick up litter on boulevards and along city fence lines
Work with asphalt, crack sealing, and concrete crews to repair streets, sidewalks, and lots
Cut and trim grass on city‑owned properties, culverts, and ditches
Perform winter snow and ice control using a pickup truck with a plow blade
Work outdoors continuously in all weather conditions and seasons
Assist with general street, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer maintenance
Support tree and landscaping maintenance
Assist with streetlight and traffic maintenance
Support emergency response efforts such as storms, flooding, and natural disasters
Assist in concrete finishing: digging, grading, setting forms for pavement, curbs, and sidewalks
Perform routine maintenance of sanitary sewer mains, catch basins, and manholes
Operate equipment used in construction and maintenance
Assist in building storm sewers, catch basins, and sanitary manholes
Complete asphalt crack‑filling and pothole repair
Carry out manual and semi‑skilled labor duties across DPW as assigned
Maintain reliable attendance and accurate communication
Maintain the ability to legally operate a designated motor vehicle
What you bring
High school diploma or equivalent
Valid driver's license
Ability to obtain CDL (Class B or C with air brakes) within 1 year of hire
Physical labor experience preferred but not required
