City of La Habra is recruiting for the Lead Teacher position in the Child Development Division of the Community Services department. The Lead Teacher is a supervisory position requiring at least a Site Supervisor Permit (issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing). The Lead Teacher acts as Site Director for one program site and oversees site coordination and supervisory duties within federal and state regulations.

We believe that each child should receive individual attention, encouragement, support, and guidance. The program is committed to the community, providing part‑day and full‑day subsidized childcare with a focus on accommodating children with disabilities.

About the Position
Under direction, the Lead Teacher supervises a childcare site, assists the Child Development Division in planning and implementing programs, and evaluates staff.

Responsibilities

Obtain and maintain all required certifications for the childcare site as established by state and federal guidelines.

Complete required forms, records, and reports for the program and site.

Review and implement lesson plans, assessments, and child outcomes with teachers.

Act as a classroom teacher for a portion of the day.

Supervise, plan, and implement staffing schedules and professional growth while maintaining appropriate teacher/child ratio, including filling in for teachers.

Oversee the development and implementation of parent participation programs.

Coordinate and attend program community events outside of the typical workday schedule.

Perform related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of the California State Preschool Program (CSPP), Transitional Kindergarten, General Childcare (CCTR), before and after school‑age programs.

Knowledge of Title V, Title 22, Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) and Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS).

Understanding of appropriate child growth and development techniques and theories across developmental areas.

Knowledge of High/Scope, STEM or Creative Curriculum methodology.

Knowledge of supervisory techniques.

Abilities

Develop ongoing staff training and coaching.

Effectively communicate with children, parents, staff and the community.

Observe and recognize behaviors or conditions in children that may indicate special attention and/or referral.

Plan a Preschool or School Age program including meal preparation, education, staff training, and parent education.

Communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Complete all necessary forms as required.

Education / Training / Experience
Position requires an Associate’s Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education (24 units) plus 3 units of supervised field experience or a Child Development Site Supervisor Permit. Bilingual (English/Spanish) and a Bachelor’s Degree are highly desired.

License / Certification Requirements
Pediatric First Aid and Pediatric CPR certification required within 30 days of employment. Must pass California Community Care Licensing fingerprint clearance to work with children.

Conditions of Employment

Successful completion of a criminal history background check.

Obtain and maintain all certifications and educational requirements as established by state and federal guidelines, including:

CPR/First Aid certificate for infants and children.

Food Handlers card.

Pediatric First Aid and Pediatric CPR certification within 30 days of employment.

California Community Care Licensing fingerprint clearance.

Bloodborne Pathogens and HIV training.

Provide copies of all mandated certifications and official transcripts with the employment application.

Physical Qualifications
Must be able to lift children or heavy items up to 50 lbs unassisted, bend, stand, climb, and walk. Must be able to work in environments with biological conditions, stand for extended periods, reach overhead, communicate, see to monitor activities, and assist in emergency evacuations.

Special Conditions
Public Employee Disaster Service Worker: All La Habra City employees are required to perform assigned disaster service worker duties in the event of an emergency or disaster.
