General Summary
Under the general supervision of the Safety/Security/Emergency Management Manager (SSEMM), the Safety Specialist (SS) position provides general to complex level support in the design, planning and execution of safety, security, and emergency response systems for IES. The incumbent is expected to have proficient knowledge of federal and state safety and health compliance regulations and is responsible for assembling written updates to applicable guidelines, policies, programs and initiatives that support the safety and security of IES personnel, assets and operations. Desired competencies include accuracy, attention to detail, proficiency in managing relationships and information, and the ability to establish priorities under tight deadlines. Prior experience in public speaking and classroom training is required, and prior relevant experience in the energy and/or retail industries is strongly preferred.
Qualifications
Three to five or more years of relevant experience.
High school diploma.
Proven experience understanding and applying safety policies and processes, preferably within an industrial and/or retail environment.
Proven experience in multi‑tasking work projects.
Knowledge of OSHA standards and Safe Work Practices.
Experience in developing, delivering, and supporting training programs.
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in a relevant field, preferred.
Skills
Uphold strict ethical standards: integrity, objectivity, and confidentiality of sensitive information.
Proficient Microsoft Office Suite skills, including editing, proofreading, and PowerPoint.
Maintain automated and manual record‑keeping systems.
Strong team spirit and the ability to transfer it to others.

Must pass pre‑employment background check including medical, drug and job‑related physical abilities testing as required.
Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment as required.
Must be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) within sixty days of hire.
Safety‑sensitive position and random drug testing is required.
Valid driver’s license with clean abstract.
Willingness to devote the time as needed to meet packet and task deadlines.
Willingness to maintain or increase skills.
Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
Safety
– Supports the SSEML with driving the safety culture to align with the four B’s and ultimately toward an incident‑free workplace.
Support safety management systems such as safe work practices, training, assessments, continuous improvement processes; manage change, process hazard reviews, incident investigations.
Manage radio communication system, gas detection equipment, and safety data sheet database.
Assist the Lead with industrial hygiene monitoring.
Emergency Management
– assist with managing the emergency response systems, including plans, programs, and policies; develop, implement, train, assess, and continuously improve system elements.
Build relationships with municipal fire departments and other company partners.
Coordinate emergency response teams and spill drill coordination.
Security
– Work with the SSEML to ensure compliance with Maritime Transportation Security Act requirements.
Teamwork
– Work effectively with coworkers by sharing ideas constructively, listening, keeping commitments, informing others of progress, addressing problems constructively, and respecting workforce diversity.
Other Duties
Perform other duties consistent with the scope of the position.
Maintain commitment to a high standard of compliance with all IES policies and procedures and report concerns as appropriate to management.
Draft guidelines, processes, and procedures and other written documents.
Lead SSEM special projects across business units of IES.

Compensation
The hiring salary range for this position is $101,000 to $134,000.
