
Laboratory Research Assistant - Casual

Position Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Laboratory Research Assistant – Casual for the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy. This position will provide research assistance to Dr. Suzie Chen and Dr. Wei‑Xing Zong for their collaboration titled, “Characterization of unique gene identified from CRIPSPR /Cas9 screen in interleukin‑3‑dependent B‑cell lymphoma cells”. The Laboratory Research Assistant – Casual will participate in cancer research by providing laboratory and/or technical support duties involving the application of scientific research methods and techniques.
Key Responsibilities
Perform multistage purifications including accurately making solutions and buffers.
Homogenize mouse tissues and prepare protein lysates for western immunoblots.
Determine protein concentration on samples.
Prepare samples for SDS gels and run SDS polyacrylamide gels.
Perform Western blots and probe with primary and secondary antibodies.
Analyze the western blots and decide on follow‑up experiments.
Maintain cultured cells.
Derive individual clones with tagged protein markers.
Characterize clones and select the most appropriate ones for in vivo testing.
Maintain an orderly notebook of all experiments and track tissue/protein lysate samples stored in freezers and cell clones in liquid nitrogen.
Write up results for publication.
Salary
$30.00 per hour

Temporary Staff Appointment – Hourly.

Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a scientific/technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant laboratory technician or research study experience carrying out research protocols and tests, or other technical work may be substituted for the degree.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Practical understanding and working knowledge of basic scientific techniques.
Proper use of the laboratory balance and understanding and use of the mole concept.
Ability to record and maintain data in computerized and non‑computerized formats and write up results for publication.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to participate in required occupational health and safety programs.
Ability to learn and apply job‑specific techniques through structured training.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in a relevant science or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
