
Crime Scene Supervisor

Supervises the daily functions of the Crime Scene Unit; provides onsite technical expertise; processes and collects evidence at crime scenes; does related work as required. Work is performed under the supervision of the Forensic Services Manager.
Responsibilities
Supervises and evaluates crime scene unit employees.
Plans, schedules, evaluates, and counsels crime scene unit staff on work performance to ensure compliance with department policies and procedures.
Trains crime scene unit personnel.
Responsible for purchasing and maintenance of crime scene unit supplies and equipment.
Processes crime scenes including photographs, evidence collection, diagrams, and other pertinent information.
Responsible for lab safety requirements.
Responds to major scenes to supervise analysis of evidentiary material and laboratory examinations.
Testifies in court as an expert witness.
Performs related tasks as required.
Knowledge of the rules and regulations of the Police Department.
Knowledge of police investigative techniques and techniques of identification.
Knowledge of evidentiary procedures.
Knowledge of the techniques of processing crime scenes and maintaining the security of evidence; ability to analyze evidence.
Ability to gather and secure evidence; ability to keep detailed records and prepare reports.
Knowledge in photography and latent print development and digital enhancement procedures.
Ability to utilize AFIS technology and perform related work as necessary.
A two-year degree in Forensic Science or related field or other specialized training in Forensic Science.
Minimum of six (6) years of experience in a full-time crime scene investigation role.
Preferred Qualifications
Completion of an industry recognized basic fingerprint course
Supervisory experience is preferred.
Possession of Crime Scene certification with International Association for Identification is preferred.
Additional experience is accepted as a minimum requirement in lieu of the postsecondary degree on the following basis: additional four (4) years in lieu of the bachelor’s degree, and additional two (2) years in lieu of an associate degree.
