Pharmacy Technician 2 - Inpatient Pharmacy (Evenings 7 on 7 off)

Overview
These roles are responsible for the administration, preparation, dispensing, and management of medications and other health products to ensure safe and effective patient care. Pharmacy technicians work in pharmacies, UVA hospitals, clinics, and research facilities.

Responsibilities
Assist pharmacists in the preparation, dispensing, and management of medications and support pharmacy operations. Key tasks include:

Fill prescriptions and maintain medication inventory

Process insurance claims and ensure compliance with pharmacy regulations

Prepare and label medications for inpatient use

Deliver medications directly to nursing units and patient care areas

Support clinical workflows and medication safety protocols

Collaborate with pharmacists to ensure accuracy and efficiency

Additional Responsibilities
Sterile compounding is performed in a newly renovated, state‑of‑the‑art IV clean room. Technician roles within the IV Room will be described separately.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent

Experience: Minimum 6 months of relevant experience

Licensure/Certification: Commonwealth of Virginia Pharmacy Technician Registration required. CPhT credential through National Healthcareer Association (NHA) or Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) required. For team members hired prior to February 1, 2020, certification as CPhT through NHA or PTCB must be obtained by January 31, 2022.

Physical Demands
Job requires standing for prolonged periods. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly; ability to lift, push, or pull less than 20 lbs.

Onboarding Requirements
Background checks and pre‑employment health screenings will be conducted on all new hires prior to employment. All safety‑sensitive positions with direct patient interaction also require a minimum drug screen.

Compensation
The starting base rate for this role is $20.68 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
