
Coordinator, Patient Financial - Transplant Center (Full-Time, 40, Day)

RESPONSIBILITIES
I. JOB SUMMARY:
Has primary responsibility and accountability for coordinating and clarifying patient-specific financial aspects of care for patients of the Transplant Center.
Works with patients and their families in a compassionate and tactful manner, beginning with the evaluation for transplantation and continuing through and after transplantation.
Counsels and advises patients of their medical coverage and payment options.
Analyzes, organizes, and utilizes complex data and rules related to contracting and patient benefits to provide financial clearance for transplantation.
Functions as a member of the transplant multidisciplinary team and participates in the evaluation and selection of transplant and living donor candidates.
Identifies opportunities for improvement to optimize fiscal responsibility for the department.
Has primary responsibility to manage and maintain transplant pre-evaluation contracts with physicians, service groups, and hospitals.

III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.
Must be available 24/7 to financially clear patients for transplant surgery and for any inpatient needs, alternating with other financial coordinator.
IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree required, preferably in health care, business or related field.
B. CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
No certification and/or licensure requirement.
C. EXPERIENCE:
Two (2) years of experience in healthcare billing, business services, accounting, finance or related experience.
Knowledge of insurance reimbursement regulations and medical terminology.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish effective relationships with a broad range of people, i.e. patients, families, healthcare professionals, government agencies, etc.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, i.e. Word and Excel.
Prior experience in Transplant Center billing and insurance preferred.
