The Role: Research Animal Technician
Cogent is seeking a dedicated Research Animal Technician for weekend and holiday shifts. The role involves administering scheduled doses of medications to research animals and performing routine cleaning and maintenance of animal enclosures to uphold high standards of animal care and facility hygiene. The ideal candidate will have laboratory animal care experience, a high attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while following established protocols.
Responsibilities
Monitor and provide daily care for research animals
Administer oral and IP test articles to mice and rats
Safely handle and restrain animals
Perform cage washing, preparation, and general husbandry tasks
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the facility
Schedule
Weekend and holiday shifts (Saturday and/or Sunday required)
AM Shifts: Begin between 6:00-7:00 AM
Perform health checks on all animals
Ensure adequate food and water supply
Address any immediate husbandry needs (e.g., flooded cages)
PM Shifts: Begin between 5:00-6:00 PM
Complete scheduled dosing
Wash and prep cages as needed
Assist on any other assigned tasks
Training will take place during weekday hours prior to starting independent shifts
Optional weekday hours may be available on an as‑needed basis and will be paid at the standard hourly rate
Qualifications
Minimum 1 year of laboratory animal care experience preferred
Proficiency in dosing mice and rats (oral gavage and IP)
Veterinary technicians will also be considered
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow protocols
Ability to work independently and maintain consistency in care
Salary
$30-35/hr USD. Exact compensation will vary based on skills and experience.
