Position Overview
DSHS BHHA SOCR – Direct Support Professional (Attendant Counselor 2) – supports adults and children with developmental disabilities in living full, empowered lives in their own homes. Responsibilities include cooking, personal care, household tasks, community activities, medication administration, and promoting physical, behavioral, and emotional well‑being.
Responsibilities
Coach, teach, and mentor individuals with intellectual disabilities
Support and train clients in all areas of daily living skills
Implement Individual Support Plans, including programs and services
Transport and accompany clients to appointments and community activities
Build meaningful, respectful relationships with the people you support
Maintain a safe and clean home environment
Collect, review, and document participant information, including details essential to home operations
Use electronic systems to maintain accurate client records and reports
Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Demonstrates a positive, friendly, and professional demeanor
Communicates clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
Maintains punctuality, reliability, and strong accountability
Effectively supports individuals with challenging behaviors or complex needs
Builds and maintains respectful relationships with staff, residents, and the public
Works independently and collaboratively within a team environment
Follows policies and procedures while maintaining strong organizational and work habits
Qualifications
One year of experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities in settings such as mental health facilities, nursing homes, hospitals, or residential programs AND a high school diploma or GED (or equivalent)
Schedule and Compensation
Work schedule: various shifts available. Evening and night shifts include a shift differential in addition to the standard compensation rate.
