Description
The purpose of your role as an Estimator
As an Estimator, you will prepare portions of contract proposal estimates for one or more disciplines, including plumbing, piping or sheet metal systems. You may independently estimate a small‑to‑medium sized plan/spec, design‑assist or design‑build projects.
Responsibilities
Develop proposals and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimates.
Estimate sizes, distances, quantities, and determine time, costs, resources, or materials needed to perform work activities.
Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
Perform complete takeoff of scope of work and prepare accurate project cost estimates.
Review proposal specifications and drawings to confirm scope and estimate contents.
Recommend design options to maximize cost, engineering quality, or material availability.
Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects, or services, comparing actual costs to bids as projects develop.
Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other documentation at regular intervals.
Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures.
Review material and labor requirements to determine most cost-effective outcomes.
Obtain quotes from subcontractors and vendors in accordance with scope and specifications.
Documentation & Team Collaboration
Document account activities, generate reports, and keep records of business transactions with customers and suppliers.
Maintain backup files of working documents for estimate figures.
Support other department personnel as needed, including preparing estimates in other disciplines.
Contribute to the desired corporate culture and a safety‑centric work environment.
Qualifications & Experience
Associate’s degree in mechanical engineering, construction management, or related field preferred; or 1–5 years of equivalent experience.
1+ year of estimating, engineering, or trade experience related to mechanical engineering.
2+ years of experience working with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
