Position Overview
Strasburg Rail Road Company is seeking a team‑oriented machinist with a strong work ethic, natural curiosity, and a desire to learn. The selected individual will have experience as a machinist, tool & die maker, or millwright. This is an opportunity to work in a unique facility performing highly‑skilled, custom work. Final job description and rate of pay will be dependent on qualifications and experience.

Key Responsibilities

Operation of machine tools such as drill presses, lathes, boring mills, milling machines, surface grinders, etc.

Precise measurement using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, etc.

Use of common power and hand tools.

Operation of machinery like forklift, telehandlers, manlifts, etc.

Selecting cutting feeds and speeds for machining.

Rigging or lifting using overhead crane.

Reading/interpreting mechanical drawings.

Additional Experience

CNC programming experience.

Prior experience working in a railroad environment.

Experience welding, brazing or torch cutting.

CAD or CAM software skills.

Hydraulics.

Electrical.

Knowledge of how steam locomotives work.

Familiarity with Federal Railroad Administration regulations.

Familiarity with ASME or NBIC codes.

Formal training or degree specializing in any of the primary skills listed above.

Computer knowledge, including Microsoft Office products.

Position Details

Full‑time, minimum forty (40) hours per week. Regular shop hours: 6:30 am to 3:00 pm. Shift may vary due to changing projects and priorities.

Work is primarily indoors; many duties require occasional outdoor work in all weather conditions.

Regular social contact with team members, customers, and vendors.

Occasional exposure to very hot or very cold temperatures.

Frequent exposure in a shop setting to soot, dust, oil, paint, and other potentially hazardous substances.

Frequent work in areas of restricted movement.

Frequent need for personal protective equipment.

Extended periods of walking or standing.

Frequent lifting of more than 50 pounds.

Employment may be subject to background check and drug testing (pre‑employment and random).
