The Role
Supervises, assigns, coordinates, and evaluates semi‑skilled and skilled trades personnel according to their skill, experience, and job knowledge. Trains employees to improve quality and quantity of work performed and recommends training to enhance skill and productivity. Breaks broad strategies down into practical action plans and ensures employees are trained to execute them. Enforces technical compliance with all drawings, procedures, and specifications. Oversees manufacturing, installation, operation, testing, and process operations that have a significant financial impact on company performance. Manages qualified trades staff, monitors job and budget performance for all shifts.

Successful candidates will have a thorough technical knowledge of the trade in the area of responsibility, typically acquired through completion of an Apprenticeship program or equivalent education and training. Candidates without an Apprenticeship certificate should have a minimum of three years of trade experience with some exposure to production planning and support functions. The candidate must be able to supervise the work of others, motivate and train employees, and possess strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills. Specific technical, medical, and physical requirements may apply depending on assigned area.

Must Have

BS/Apprentice certification

High school diploma (or equivalent) plus four years of combined manufacturing, shipbuilding, trades, and military experience

Associate degree in a trade or technical field plus three years of relevant manufacturing, shipbuilding, trade, or military experience

Internal candidates must have a superior attendance and disciplinary record: no more than three unexcused absences and no safety DANS resulting in a disciplinary layoff in the last 180‑day period; no more than two total DANS in that period (excluding lost tool).

Must be willing and able to work any shift assigned.

Nice to Have
Strong working knowledge of ship construction processes with emphasis on machine shop production and familiarity with the travelers system.
