Department Overview
The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS) is the largest department on the Berkeley campus, consisting of >130 faculty, adjuncts, and 3,400+ undergraduate and graduate students, and 60+ staff members. EECS programs are consistently ranked in the top three nationally and globally.
Position Overview
The Facilities Project Management Specialist assists the EECS Director of Facilities on all projects, managing small and capital design and construction projects, overseeing training and close‑out documents, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
25% Supports and assists the EECS Director of Facilities on all projects and operations from planning and design, including project progress review, inspections, drafting and reviewing schedules, budgets, construction documents, estimates, and contractor coordination.
25% Coordinates, monitors, and tracks small projects, critical maintenance, custodial, grounds, and other service requests for Campus Facilities Services and external vendors or organizations working on assigned EECS facilities.
15% Sequences and schedules work of skilled trades/vendors/contractors to ensure completion within defined timelines and budgetary constraints. Identifies and coordinates necessary action to correct faulty work or meet new job parameters.
10% Serves as the primary contact for all occupants regarding project and maintenance impacts, including faculty, staff, graduate students, post‑docs, and instructional spaces.
10% Performs organizational and administrative activities not directly related to projects, including serving on organizational committees representing the department or unit.
5% Supports the review of cost estimates. Prepares for review and calculates project estimates for timeliness, labor, materials, and budgets using skill trades or contractors/external vendors, if applicable. Verifies construction budgets and finalizes funding sources, proposing alternative strategies to meet intended outcomes while meeting budgetary and/or time constraints.
5% Oversees and ensures all project training and close‑out documentation meet contract requirements.
5% Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Knowledge of building and construction, design, construction contract administration, and California Building Codes.
Skills to develop project scope and drawings.
Computer skills in word processing, spreadsheet, and project management software. Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including effective negotiation skills.
Good organizational and analytical skills. Detail‑oriented to accurately proofread contracts and other documents.
Demonstrated ability to manage contractors and maintain compliance with the agreed‑upon scope of work and budget.
Ability to work with cross‑functional departments to meet the facilities' needs of EECS.
Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $75,000 - $90,000.
This is a one‑year contract position. Contract positions may be extended based on operational demand and are eligible to participate in the health and welfare programs offered by UC Berkeley.
