Purpose
The Lead, Clinical (Mohs Travel Team) is a highly skilled clinical professional who delivers exceptional patient care across multiple practice locations while serving as a key leader in driving operational excellence. This role combines hands‑on support in Mohs surgery and general dermatology with responsibility for overseeing clinical workflows, optimizing patient flow, and supporting staff performance.
Acting as both a clinical expert and team lead, this individual partners closely with providers and practice leadership to ensure consistency in care delivery, provide real‑time problem solving, and support the training and development of medical assistants. Through a balance of direct patient care and leadership oversight, the role ensures high‑quality outcomes, efficient operations, and a seamless patient experience across all assigned sites.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assist providers with Mohs surgeries and general dermatology procedures across multiple locations, ensuring high-quality patient care and adherence to clinical protocols
Prepare patients for examination and treatment by escorting, obtaining medical histories (HPI), verifying medications, and documenting accurately in the EMR
Serve as a
clinical and operational lead , acting as the first point of contact for providers and staff regarding patient flow, EMR (ModMed), supplies, and workflow issues
Monitor and
optimize patient flow in real time , reassigning medical assistants and adjusting workflows to address volume changes, delays, or backlogs
Ensure completion of all clinical tasks, including provider to‑do lists, patient follow‑ups, and telephone encounters
Assist during procedures, including administering injections, performing suture removals, preparing surgical trays, and anticipating provider needs
Ensure all surgical documentation, consents, and pre‑procedure requirements are completed accurately prior to treatment
Document patient encounters, pathology, and specimen tracking thoroughly and in compliance with organizational standards
Prepare, clean, sterilize, and maintain instruments, equipment, and exam rooms while ensuring infection control and OSHA compliance
Oversee and maintain adequate
inventory of medical supplies , including ordering, restocking, and standardization across sites
Respond to patient inquiries, communicate test results, and coordinate follow‑up care, referrals, and scheduling
Manage prescriptions and refills in accordance with provider instructions
Lead
training and onboarding of medical assistants , providing real‑time coaching and ensuring adherence to clinical best practices
Support cross‑training in Mohs and general dermatology procedures to maintain team flexibility across locations
Act as an
EMR superuser , providing troubleshooting support and guidance to staff
Identify, elevate, and assist in resolving patient concerns, complaints, and operational issues in partnership with leadership
Assist Practice Manager with researching patient, billing, or coding concerns and communicating findings as needed
Support implementation and communication of new processes, workflows, and policies across locations
Provide input on staff performance, productivity, and development opportunities
Travel to multiple sites to provide clinical coverage, leadership support, and ensure consistency in care delivery
Maintain compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and all regulatory and organizational standards
Foster a collaborative, patient‑centered environment by demonstrating professionalism, adaptability, and strong communication across diverse teams
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Certified Medical Assistant preferred
2–3+ years dermatology experience, with Mohs experience strongly preferred
Prior leadership or training experience preferred
