
Senior Program Officer, Nutrition Advocacy

Your Role
The Interim Senior Program Officer (SPO) will implement advocacy and communications strategies to advance the policy, financing, and leverage goals of the foundation’s Nutrition programs. The role focuses on identifying and securing diverse financing sources for large‑scale food fortification and supporting nutrition initiatives such as the Child Nutrition Fund, working with global partners and internal program partners to enhance advocacy and financing outcomes.
What You’ll Do
Support the implementation of the foundation’s nutrition advocacy strategy, with a focus on global donor advocacy, philanthropic collaboration, development finance institutions, and domestic budget advocacy in focus countries.
Manage a portfolio of nutrition advocacy partners, overseeing portfolio budgets and grant‑making processes.
Lead high‑impact partnerships, coalitions, and advocacy campaigns, coordinating networks of grantees.
Analyze incentives for increasing public and private investment in LMIC food processing value chains.
Provide in‑depth advocacy and communications counsel to key grantees and partners.
Maintain relationships with critical donor and government stakeholders, including emerging‑economy governments, sector stakeholders, and multilateral institutions.
Represent the foundation to external constituencies, including speeches, conference presentations, and committee participation.
Write and produce briefings, messaging, reports, and other materials for foundation leadership.
Participate in DEI efforts to advance commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Collaborate with Nutrition and cross‑GPA teams to enhance integration and impact.
Your Experience
Bachelor’s degree in public policy, international relations, nutrition, or a related field with 7+ years of senior‑level experience leading advocacy in nutrition or health and development.
Deep understanding of advocacy and communications strategies to shape political and financial support for global development issues.
Strong knowledge of private sector markets in LMICs and financing for medium‑ and large‑enterprises in food and nutrition.
Experience in agriculture, health, or nutrition policy and financing, and understanding of the global donor landscape.
Proven advocacy experience with global donors and multilateral institutions, engaging senior‑level policymakers, civil society, coalitions, and governments.
Knowledge of global development financial institutions and mechanisms for funding programs at national and regional levels.
Track record of providing vision, influencing stakeholders, and sustaining collaborative relationships.
Excellent project and leadership skills, including strategy development, execution, budget management, and cross‑functional collaboration.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to synthesize information for diverse audiences.
Experience managing a grant portfolio, including direct responsibility for grant‑making and management.
Experience managing complex projects or grants supporting policy initiatives, advocacy programs, and global events.
Strong initiative, organization, and flexibility to work autonomously and cross‑functionally.
Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time.
Salary range: $212,800 to $329,800 USD. The range for our Seattle and Washington, D.C. offices is $234,000 to $362,800 USD.
