PMO Consultant
Vaco, Blue Ash, OH, United States
Job Title: Project Management Lead (Construction Operations)
Location: Cincinnati, OH (must be local)
Work Environment: Primarily in-office with regular travel to construction sites
Engagement Type: Contract (90 days initial, potential for extension or full-time conversion)
Overview
Vaco is seeking an experienced project management professional with a background in the construction industry to establish and implement foundational project management practices across our client’s organization. This role is focused on building structure, improving execution, and driving consistency—not just managing individual projects. You will embed within a business unit, assess current gaps, and implement practical, scalable PM processes that improve visibility, accountability, and outcomes across multiple concurrent projects.
Key Responsibilities
Design and implement standardized project management frameworks, processes, and tools
Build and enforce scheduling discipline, including detailed project plans and milestone tracking
Improve resource planning and coordination across technicians and projects
Establish governance structures, including stage gates, controls, and reporting cadences
Create visibility into project performance (planned vs. actual) and overall portfolio health
Implement risk identification, tracking, and mitigation practices
Reduce reactive project execution by introducing prioritization and planning discipline
Develop clear reporting for leadership, highlighting progress, risks, and key decisions
Partner with technicians, business leaders, and executives to drive adoption of new processes
Lead by example—teaching, coaching, and reinforcing best practices through hands‑on involvement
Qualifications
Experience in the construction industry (required)
Proven ability to implement or mature project management practices, frameworks, or PMO functions
Strong track record managing multiple projects and improving delivery performance
Expertise in scheduling, resource planning, and project tracking
Experience introducing governance, reporting, and risk management processes
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills across all levels of an organization
Ability to drive change and influence teams with diverse working styles
Hands‑on, execution‑focused mindset with a bias for action
Preferred Qualifications
Experience standing up or scaling a PMO or similar function
Familiarity with formal PM methodologies (PMI, Agile, or hybrid approaches)
