Administrative Assistant I School 10 Month

Performs intermediate clerical work performing a variety of secretarial and clerical tasks in an office environment; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the principal.
This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects, and some light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
Serving as primary clerical support to the principal and staff; serving as receptionist and telephone operator; preparing and maintaining files and records; assisting students and parents.
Answers telephone, meets the public and provides information; Registers students, verifies data, answers questions, types schedules and prepares records; Processes withdrawing students, processes and forwards records; Types letters, memos, reports, bulletins, requisitions, invoices, schedules, manuals, student files and records; Operates standard office machines including word processor and computer; Posts a variety of information from standardized sources to various types of control records; Composes and types letters and memoranda in conformance with school policies and from brief instructions; Prepares and updates school schedules; Enters pentamation data and produces results; Compiles and prepares daily attendance, discipline, safety, student teacher reports, etc.; Processes incoming and outgoing mail; Monitors office traffic including students in time-out, early dismissals, and missed bus; Makes morning, afternoon and periodic announcements; Oversees office equipment maintenance; maintains inventory of office machines, equipment and supplies; Assists at school functions as required; Assists with bookkeeping function when required; Maintains various manuals and computer school, pupil, teacher and program files; Prepares and maintains payroll, leave and personnel files; Administers minor first aid in absence of school nurse; Orders print shop forms and supplies; Performs related tasks as required.
General knowledge of standard office practices, procedures and equipment; general knowledge of business English, spelling and arithmetic; general knowledge of school system routine, personnel procedures and record keeping; general knowledge of basic first aid practices; skill in the use of computer equipment; ability to develop and follow detailed work procedures; ability to type accurately and at a reasonable rate of speed; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, students and the general public.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by courses in bookkeeping, accounting, business and similar subjects and some general office experience involving the maintenance of complex financial records.
