Position Overview
Program Manager for LIFTED, a UCSB initiative that offers a Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Literature to incarcerated students at California State Prison, Corcoran. The role reports to the UCSB LIFTED Faculty Director and involves staff management, program coordination, and student services across UC, Bakersfield College, and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and oversee all LIFTED program processes, ensuring compliance with UC policies, CDCR regulations, and campus procedures.

Manage professional and student staff; provide training, evaluate performance, set goals, and coordinate workload.

Collaborate with prison staff, faculty, and administration to maintain relationships and facilitate student services.

Coordinate student admissions, orientation, academic advising, financial‑aid counseling, and career preparation.

Plan and manage operational budgets and fundraising opportunities for the program.

Organize and execute student events and professional development activities.

Report on program metrics and recommend policy improvements to senior leadership.

Travel regularly to the California State Prison, Corcoran to work directly with students and faculty.

Required Qualifications

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

Clearance from the prison within 60 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

1-3 years of related experience in higher‑education advising or corrections‑based programs.

Knowledge of counseling techniques and multicultural competencies.

Proficiency with university application and database systems.

Strong verbal and written communication, organizational, and critical‑thinking skills.

Understanding of UC policies, rules, and CDCR regulations.

Employment Conditions

Career position from July 1 2026 to June 30 2029 with possible extension based on funding.

Valid driver’s license required; must meet local driving record policies.

Successful criminal‑history background check.
