Unit: Rehab Days; adult rehabilitation
Weekend coverage: Every other weekend
First-time travel: OK
Floating: Travelers may float to like units within scope with brief orientation
Pre-approved time off: RTO requests must be listed at submittal; up to 4 days auto-approved
Charting system: Epic preferred
Responsibilities
Provide direct nursing care to adults in the rehab unit, implementing the plan of care and coordinating with the interdisciplinary team
Monitor patient status, assist with mobility and transfers using lift devices and other assistive equipment; promote safety and fall precautions
Manage airway and respiratory needs: suctioning, supplemental oxygen, incentive spirometry, tracheostomy care as indicated
Support neuro-related rehab needs: stroke care, stroke scale monitoring, TBI, Parkinson’s disease, spinal cord injury rehab
Wound/skin care and prevention of pressure injuries; care of feeding tubes (PEG/NG) and swallowing precautions with thickened liquids
IV therapy: start/maintain IVs, manage medications including anticoagulation and insulin protocols; pain assessment and infection prevention
Urinary catheter management (Foley), reassessment of therapy needs, and accurate charting in the patient record (Epic preferred)
Document changes in condition, response to therapy, and collaborate with therapists, physicians, and nursing colleagues; participate in discharge planning and patient/family education
Requirements
Licensure: New Mexico RN license or Compact license accepted; license must be obtained prior to start
Certification: BLS required
Experience: Minimum 1 year clinical experience; preferred: charge experience, community hospital, LTAC, Trauma Level I/II
Documentation: Epic charting preferred
Skills/Capabilities: Mobility and transfer assistance, airway management, wound care, IV therapy, infection prevention, pain assessment; ability to float to similar units within scope with brief orientation
Work setting: Able to work in a rehab-focused unit within a hospital; comfortable caring for adult patients
