Job Summary
Provides personal, equipment and real property security for faculty, staff, students and visitors within an assigned area of the University campus and community. Performs routine patrols to assist in providing a safer campus environment. Provides support services and assists first responders by performing functions and activities not exclusively reserved for sworn peace officers. Responsible for warning violators of rule infractions and assists with traffic and parking violations. Serves as a Campus Security Authority as defined by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act).

Responsibilities

Performs active and routine patrols (foot, bicycle or vehicle) of all campus areas according to established guidelines

Provides regular surveillance of campus properties, including locking and unlocking buildings according to designated schedules

Enforces University rules and regulations

Assists with traffic and pedestrian control and parking violations

Creates and maintains a positive public relation with the campus community by serving as a knowledgeable resource to students, staff and visitors providing directions and current campus event information

Creates written reports and other documentation as necessary (patrol logs, incident reports, parking surveys, etc.)

Provides outreach to campus community and establishes relationships with students, faculty, and staff in order to foster trust with public safety

Pursues additional knowledge, training and skills relating to job performance

Functions as public safety first responder for non-criminal incidents, and performs support roles to sworn police officers

Responds to, addresses, and documents alarm calls, medical emergencies/injuries, crisis situations, motor vehicle crashes, calls for service, complaints, lost/recovered property, reports of damage, public nuisance, criminal activity, suspicious circumstances, or hazardous/unsafe conditions. Contacts and coordinates with E-911, law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical responders. Provides on-scene support and assistance to first responders and/or sworn law enforcement personnel

Performs rescue functions at accidents, emergencies and disasters to include directing traffic, administering emergency medical aid, lifting, dragging and removing people from dangerous situations and securing and evacuating people from areas

Writes police reports stemming from citizens in the field, on the phone, and at the police department

Mans safety check points or assigned reception points

Responds to low risk calls for service in the field by means of driving a university vehicle

Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent

Other Required Qualifications

Current, valid and unrestricted driver’s license

CPR, AED and basic First Aid certification, or obtain within six (6) months of hire

Required Experience
One (1) year of related experience

Preferred Educational Qualifications
An undergraduate or advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field

Proposed Salary
The budgeted salary range is $19.60 to $24.52 per hour. Offers are based on relevant experience.

Abilities:

Ability to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel

Able to handle multiple projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines

Knowledge:

Knowledge of current procedures regarding FEMA NIMS, ICs, and CERT protocols

Knowledge of public security codes, policies, and regulations

Ability to successfully conduct security patrols without direct supervision

Skills:

Skill in performing building security and lock procedures

Skill in providing protection services to individuals on campus

Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills

Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (e.g. Microsoft Office suite)

Strong attention to detail and follow up skills

Strong customer service skills and phone etiquette
