
General Surgical Officer - (Iraq)

Job Description
Duties
Lead the surgical team and conduct thorough preoperative assessments, including reviewing medical histories, physical examinations, and diagnostic tests to determine the need for surgical intervention.
Perform a variety of surgical procedures such as appendectomies, hernia repairs, bowel resections, and more using appropriate techniques and ensuring patient safety.
Monitor patients during recovery, address complications, and provide follow‑up care instructions to promote healing and manage complications.
Educate patients and their families about surgical procedures, potential risks, and postoperative care requirements.
Work closely with anesthesiologists, nurses, and other medical professionals to coordinate surgical care and ensure optimal outcomes.
Maintain accurate medical records, including operation notes and patient progress reports, in compliance with regulatory standards.
Complete required organizational compliance education, including client‑specified requirements for Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification or other regulatory bodies.
Qualifications
U.S. board‑certified or recently ABS qualified General Surgeon.
Full unrestricted U.S. licensure from any state, territory or Commonwealth (including Puerto Rico) or the District of Columbia.
Current ATLS required; recent completion of Tactical Combat Casualty Care or comparable advanced trauma course featuring live tissue, or exceptional simulation training is desirable.
Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalency.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
Minimum five years of recent experience, including six months within the last year.
Experience on a military site working as a government subcontractor or prime contractor is preferred.
Education Required
MD or DO is required. The degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges – Liaison Committee on Medical Education or another accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Physical Requirements
Meet pre‑deployment physical requirements.
Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
May require bending, stooping and lifting to 25 lbs.
US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.
Valid US Passport with at least 18 months before expiration date; passport must be maintained during stay in Iraq.
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance, specifically MRPT. Applicants with current clearances are preferred.
Must be able to relocate to Iraq for the duration of the project.
