The County of San Mateo Human Services Agency (HSA) Children and Family Services (CFS) Branch is seeking a qualified

Community Worker II

for the Short‑Term Residential Therapeutic Program (STRTP) and the Temporary Shelter Care Facility (TSCF). The role supports the day‑to‑day operations of the adolescent facility by providing transportation, supervising sibling visits, greeting guests, entering client information in the database, organizing files, calendaring items, completing basic reports, and maintaining records.

Duties and Responsibilities

Collect and record data; produce weekly and monthly logs and specialty reports.

Schedule and calendar appointments.

Organize and maintain confidential client records.

Deliver administrative duties for operations of both residential facilities.

Provide assistance and supportive services to CFS staff, children, and families, including assignments in the STRTP/TSCF or field work.

Transport children to appointments, visits, school, and other scheduled events.

Purchase goods for children and families based on approved requests.

Oversee sibling visits involving children in the child welfare system.

Attend staff and in‑service meetings.

Candidate Profile

Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, Adobe, and other necessary programs.

Minimum of two years of community services to vulnerable or at‑risk populations, preferably children and youth.

Client and customer‑centered with excellent customer service skills.

Committed to learning, following supervisor guidance, and collaborating with team members, CFS staff, community partners, and agencies.

Motivational and team‑oriented.

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Highly organized, detail‑oriented, flexible, and capable of independent work.

Multi‑tasking, prioritization, and functioning in a fast‑paced environment.

A fast and creative thinker capable of making effective decisions.

Knowledge of trauma‑informed, strength‑based approaches preferred.

Spanish speaking preferred.

Qualifications and Experience
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. Two years of experience in community services for socially, economically, or mentally disadvantaged persons is typical.

Licensure / Certification
Some positions require possession of a Class C California driver’s license or equivalent.

Other Requirements
Some positions may require bilingual skills. Fluency in both English and another language is required for consideration for a bilingual position. Language skills will be tested during the interview.
