As a Patient Access Services Representative, you will be the vital first point of contact for patients entering our care. Your impact will be felt from the very first moment, whether it’s a warm greeting at the front desk or expertly navigating insurance details.

What You’ll Do

Greet patients, ensure patient safety using positive identification protocols, verify insurance, and process registration quickly and compassionately.

Collect patient financial liability and assist with financial counseling where needed.

Ensure all documentation is accurate, secure, and compliant.

Collaborate with clinical teams to optimize patient flow and satisfaction.

Use multi‑system technology to streamline patient offerings, intake and record‑keeping.

Available Hours and Schedules
Monday‑Friday 3 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. On‑call shifts and holidays required. Additional compensation: $1.00 per hour for weekend hours (if applicable) plus an 18% night shift differential after 7 p.m. (if applicable).

CORE FUNCTIONS

Verifies patient’s demographics and accurately inputs this information into EHR, including documenting the account thoroughly to maximize reimbursement and minimize denials/penalties from payors.

Works across multiple services including inpatient, observation, emergency, obstetrics, surgery, and imaging; may cover services 24/7.

Demonstrates a thorough understanding of insurance guidelines for all services; proficiently verifies, reads, and understands benefits.

Creates the first impression for patients, ensuring a positive experience through effective communication.

Accurately submits timely notifications per payer authorization guidelines using various systems to reduce/eliminate denials and consistently meets key performance indicators.

Obtains federal/state compliance information and necessary documentation required by the patient’s insurance plan(s); fully understands compliance forms required by CMS.

Confidently discusses financial liability with patients and/or families, including collections, Banner Line of Credit applications, payment plans, and Banner Financial Assistance policies or applications.

Provides a range of patient services, including transportation, training new hires, recapping daily deposits, posting deposits, and other assignments for the Patient Access Services team.

Works independently under supervision, following structured routines while prioritizing tasks in a high‑volume, fast‑paced clinical environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED.

At least one year of customer service or patient financial services experience.

Ability to manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision, working independently and collaboratively.

Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

Proficient use of common office software, word processing, spreadsheets, database software, and typing.

For employees in behavioral health facilities serving children, possession of an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and an Arizona Criminal History Affidavit at the time of hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Associate’s degree preferred.

Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR) certification.

Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) certification.

Knowledge of medical terminology or healthcare systems.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
