
Extension Educator, 4-H Youth Development - Putnam County

The Ohio State University Extension (OSUE) seeks an Educator to provide guidance and leadership for 4-H Youth Development programming tailored to meet local and area needs.
Responsibilities
Implement and support a comprehensive volunteer system (identification, selection, orientation, training, utilization, recognition, and evaluation of adult and youth volunteers).
Utilize formal and informal community assessment methods to identify educational needs and opportunities.
Design, implement, and teach educational programming based on identified needs to adults and/or youth.
Work with and/or lead committees and volunteers, establishing and maintaining community partnerships to support program goals.
Convence and facilitate community coalitions focused on local educational needs.
Design and implement high-quality annual overnight residential 4-H camp and day camp experiences, including recruitment, selection, training, and ongoing oversight of teen camp counselors and adult volunteers.
Collaborate with county junior and senior fair boards to support the county fair.
Replicate and implement existing programs (e.g., CARTEENS, Farm Safety Day Camp, County Real Money Real World program, OSU Lima/OSU Extension Steam on the Quad) and develop new educational resources and promotional materials.
Evaluate educational programs and dissemination methods, utilizing existing evaluation instruments to assess teaching effectiveness, program quality, and outcomes.
Participate in discussions with county representatives regarding program funding and share responsibility for managing the county budget.
Seek and secure external funds to support local programming.
Serve as a member of county, multi‑county, and/or state Extension teams to advance the overall mission and values of OSUE and 4‑H Youth Development.
Actively work to ensure diversity among potential clientele and learners, and equal access to programs and facilities regardless of age, race, creed, color, handicap, sex, sexual orientation, developmental disability, national origin, marital status, arrest record, or non‑program related conviction record.
Qualifications
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (Extension Educator 1 level).
Master’s Degree preferred for Extension Educator 2 level.
For Extension Educator 3 level, a Master’s Degree and 11+ years of direct or related work experience.
Experience in youth development, volunteer coordination, or related educational programming is highly desirable.
Location & Salary
Location: OSU Extension – Putnam County (Ottawa, Ohio) – Office #1559.
Salary ranges by level:
• Extension Educator 1: $42,100 – $55,000
• Extension Educator 2: $47,700 – $62,300
• Extension Educator 3: $55,700 – $72,700
Final offer will be based on internal equity, available budget, and candidate qualifications.
