Sheet Metal Mechanic – Global Security
This role supports Platform Modernization (PM) trades teams in providing expert solutions on US Naval Vessel alterations and installations for fleet modernization. The selected candidate will work closely with skilled trades teams on active class surface ships, using a variety of mechanical techniques and tools to remove, install, and upgrade industrial equipment on various contracts.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Display levels of quality, integrity, safety, respect, engagement and performance consistent with company values.

Support trades team by working on active class vessels to assist with alterations and installations for fleet modernization.

Perform all work in accordance with established quality and safety procedures.

Execute simple and complex tasks, both routine and non‑routine, including those outside of specialty, related to shipboard maintenance to meet standards on various contracts at company, customer and/or field locations.

Work from blueprints, engineering sketches, charts, or work orders.

Cut, fit, assemble, bend, and position sheet metal, ductwork, ventilation, and support structures to be attached or welded into jigs, holding fixtures, and existing structure using hand and powered tools.

Apply understanding of production and processes, specialty trades functions, and tools to provide technical support, install, operate, maintain, repair, and modify shipboard systems, integrated systems and related equipment at company, customer and/or field locations.

Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions to eliminate problems in minimum time.

Participate in special projects as required.

Develop and use technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task or trip reports.

Inspect completed work for conformance to specifications.

Minimum Qualifications

High school education or trade school or equivalent, and at least 2 years of related experience. Prefer technical/professional certifications.

Ability to obtain medical clearance to wear a half‑face respirator.

Experience performing mechanical work and accurately using and reading standard measuring instruments.

Ability to remove, attach, assemble and modify naval shipboard ventilation, ducting, sheet metal, and related systems.

Familiarity with reading and interpreting drawings, blueprints, technical manuals, engineering sketches, charts and/or work orders as well as written and verbal instruction for products to be fabricated and/or installed.

Capability to work outside of trade‑specific requirements as team projects require, assisting team members toward task completion.

Compliance with verbal instruction, safety procedures, quality control steps, and procedures.

Experience working in a team environment and effective communication skills.

Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance throughout employment.

Ability to obtain shipyard access credentials within 7 days of start date and maintain them throughout employment.

Travel required between 25% and 50% when not assigned to a local task.

Provide hand tools and trade‑specific PPE as required.

Preferred Requirements

Experience performing mechanical or ventilation work aboard naval vessels.

Experience with ventilation, HVAC, or ductwork.

Graduation from or completion of a vocational school or skilled trades certificate program.

Current Shipyard Competent Person Certification.

Current OSHA 10 Maritime Certificate.

Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes (minimum 30 lbs). Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Must be able to perform other duties such as high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
