Lead Medical Assistant – Orthopedics
Full‑time, 40‑hour position. Schedule Monday–Friday 8:30 am–5:00 pm.

Job Summary
Lead Medical Assistant plays a key leadership role within a fast‑paced, patient‑centered orthopedic practice, providing hands‑on clinical support while overseeing a team of three Medical Assistants and two Orthopedic Technicians. Responsibilities include rooming patients, assisting with orthopedic procedures, coordinating daily staffing coverage, stepping in to support coverage as needed, and ensuring efficient patient flow and high‑quality care. The role also provides guidance and mentorship to the team, assists with scheduling, attends meetings, collaborates closely with practice leadership, and serves as a point of contact for workflow and staffing concerns, requiring strong communication skills, clinical expertise, and a confident leadership approach.

Essential Functions

Assist in complex office‑based procedures and provide clinical oversight for quality control programs.

Lead the medical‑assisting team, including training, mentoring, and performance guidance.

Assign tasks and responsibilities to team members, ensuring proper workload distribution and effective utilization of resources.

Foster a positive and collaborative team environment, promoting teamwork and professional growth.

Coordinate patient flow, ensuring timely and efficient delivery of care.

Assist with patient intake, including obtaining medical history, vital signs, and preparing patients for examination.

Participate in interview process for new MAs, serve as preceptor for new hires or students, supervise clinic support staff, and create coverage schedules for the MA team.

Assist with competency assessment for other MAs and provide input on performance evaluations.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required.

Licenses & Credentials: Certified Medical Assistant (required); Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification preferred.

Experience: 3–5 years as a medical assistant with demonstrated proficiency in clinical and administrative tasks.

Strongly Preferred

Prior leadership or Lead Medical Assistant experience required.

Ambulatory orthopedic practice experience required.

Demonstrated ability to lead, support, and coordinate clinical teams.
