Job Summary
The Machine Shop Helper supports daily machine shop operations by assisting machinists, preparing materials, maintaining a clean and safe work environment, and performing basic shop tasks. This entry-level position is ideal for candidates interested in developing skills in machining and manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
Assist machinists with setup, operation, and teardown of machining equipment
Load and unload raw materials and finished parts
Deburr, clean, and inspect parts using basic measuring tools
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the machine shop
Perform basic material handling, tagging, and inventory support
Operate hand tools, grinders, saws, and other shop equipment as trained
Assist in Data Collection, Inventory Count & Tagging, and Order Distribution
Follow all safety procedures, including PPE requirements
Support preventive maintenance activities as directed
Perform other duties as assigned by shop leadership
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED preferred
Ability to read basic work instructions and safety guidelines
Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn machining processes
Ability to follow instructions and work safely as part of a team
Dependable attendance and strong work ethic
Must be able to operator a forklift and lifting devices
Must be able to communicate in English (both written and oral) as it relates to the job
Must have the ability to manage a range of priorities, sometimes under pressur
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in a machine shop or manufacturing environment
Familiarity with hand tools and shop equipment such as Saws, and Manual Machines
Basic understanding of measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, tape measures)
Vocational or technical training in manufacturing or machining
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand for extended periods
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs with or without assistance
Ability to work in a shop environment with noise, grease, and metal materials
Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
Manufacturing machine shop setting with exposure to moving machinery. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required. Fast-paced, safety-focused environment.
