Responsibilities
Serve as lead worker, providing work direction and training over plumbers, trades workers, and/or inmates engaged in plumbing work.
Install, modify, and repair new and existing plumbing—such as unclogging toilets, sinks, sewage lines, and replacing traps, valves, and thermostats.
Install water, steam, and gas lines and hook up laundry, laboratory, and kitchen equipment.
Maintain building facilities and equipment, checking pipes, plumbing, and fixtures for signs of corrosion.
Check and lubricate pumps and valves and change filters.
Make minor repairs on steam lines.
Perform support duties related to plumbing, including ordering supplies, materials, and equipment.
Read blueprints, prepare job estimates, maintain job records, and prepare reports.
Establish and conduct preventive maintenance programs for plumbing systems and equipment.
Serve on institutional committees.
Attend training, seminars, and/or meetings as required.
Perform security functions as required, such as man‑down, shakedown, and inmate movement.
Qualifications
18 months training or 18 months verifiable work experience in plumbing under the supervision of an experienced plumber; formal education in arithmetic that includes fractions, percentages, and reading and writing common English vocabulary.
– Or 6 months experience as a Plumber 1, 52261.
– Or equivalent to the minimum class qualifications for employment noted above.
