Refrigeration Maintenance Technician

Compensation and Benefits:
Competitive Starting Pay: $36.10 – $37.60 per hour
$1.00 per hour Shift Differential for 2nd Shift

Responsibilities:
Ensure safe operation of equipment and machinery and use of tools, protecting others in the immediate area.
Operate, repair and maintain all assigned equipment, including ammonia refrigeration, compressed air, dehumidification, steam, cooling systems, water filters, plumbing, heat exchangers, heaters, level controls and water systems.
Perform troubleshooting and repair of electrical systems, controls, motors, pumps, gearboxes, blowers/fans.
Resolve equipment malfunctions by evaluating breakdowns, identifying root causes, safely repairing equipment and taking actions to prevent recurrence.
Install, troubleshoot and maintain mechanical equipment, piping systems and electrical controls/components to manufacturer specifications, local regulations and company safety policies.
Carry out preventive and predictive maintenance on pumps, wrap machines, dock doors, lock and levelers used in a warehouse environment.
Coordinate with supervisor on short‑term and long‑term repairs to minimize downtime.
Receive work orders, review required tools, supplies and manpower.
Arrive on crisis calls equipped with necessary tools and equipment.
Ensure all work and preventively scheduled tasks are completed timely.
Follow work instructions, document records to meet OSHA, EPA, USDA, PSM, IIAR and warehouse management requirements.
Qualifications:
Ammonia certification required.
Must pass a pulmonary function test and wear respiratory protection.
Working knowledge of AC/DC electrical systems for preventative maintenance and repair.
High school diploma or GED and 1+ year related experience or 4 years direct experience in industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing.
Vocational/technical diploma, associate’s degree from a technical maintenance or vocational school is a plus.
Ability to work effectively in a team, interact with all levels and outside contractors.
Forklift, Genie lift or scissor lift operation.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to read, write, and communicate via work orders, instructions, daily reports and machine manuals.
Basic computer skills and ability to work independently.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
Warehouse environment includes wet or humid conditions, extreme cold/heat, moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles and chemicals.
Noise level moderate, can be loud in production area.
Occasionally lift up to 75 pounds; regularly lift up to 50 pounds using buddy system or lifting devices.
Requires close and distance vision, focus adjustment.
Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk or hear.
