Job Summary
The Sterile Processing Technician works under the supervision of the manager or designee in maintaining, disinfecting, sterilizing and processing surgical instruments and supplies.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain a clean, orderly work area while handling various types of equipment, instruments, and supplies used during surgical procedures.
Cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes instrumentation, equipment and supplies for the OR and other areas as needed.
Keeps accurate quality control records regarding Bowie-Dick Tests, Biologics and individual load records.
Ensures adequate inventory of necessary supplies for Sterile Processing department and orders as needed.
Transports sterile supplies and equipment to other areas of the hospital.
Maintains and cares for equipment and supplies; documents maintenance and repairs.
Maintains department records, reports and files as required.
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs.
Consistently provides accurate and complete hand‑off communication to any healthcare provider according to hospital policy.
Attends 80% of all department meetings and reviews and initials all department minutes missed.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Position Qualifications
Certifications: Certified Registered Central Service Technician – Healthcare Sterile Processing Association; Certified Sterile Processing Technician – The Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution, Inc.
Experience Level: Less than 1 year.
Education: High School Diploma or GED.
