The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is the agency in the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) responsible for protecting the public's health by ensuring the safety of the Nation's commercial supply of meat, poultry, and processed egg products.
Summary
$5,000 Sign on Bonus, Creditable Service for Annual Leave Accrual, Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program, and Referral Bonus Awards are available. Shifts and species will vary based on assignment.

Positions rotate with other assignments within their circuit. The Fullerton, Reno, Rancho Dominguez and Vernon positions are assigned to other sites within the same circuit. The actual location for the Rancho Dominguez position is Dominguez, CA.
Responsibilities
Apply proper techniques for collecting samples and performing field tests and examinations.
Identify abnormalities in products or production environments and recommend corrective actions.
Develop written reports and present findings orally to internal and external stakeholders.
Maintain effective personal contacts with a variety of individuals to discuss food safety standards.
Ensure conformance with established standards for regulated food commodities and substances.
Recommend refusal of exports and provide temporary coverage at locations outside the official duty station.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement, including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.
GS-05 Level:
At least 52 weeks of qualifying experience in regulated food commodities (e.g., meat, poultry, fish, eggs, beverages, pharmaceuticals) and related sampling, testing, or inspection duties.
GS-07 Level:
At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-05 level, demonstrated as independent routine assignments in a food production or manufacturing environment.
GS-08 Level:
At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-07 level, including knowledge of the Federal Meat, Poultry, and Egg Products Inspection Acts, basic SSOP and HACCP principles, and basic mathematics/statistics for testing and sampling.
GS-09 Level:
At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-08 level, with experience working at a more independent level, such as recommending export refusals and providing temporary coverage.
