Route Supervisors are responsible for the supervision of a group of drivers to ensure safe services to customers. Route Supervisors assist management with hiring, training, coaching, performance evaluating/monitoring, and counseling of direct reports with an emphasis on safety, customer service, and productivity.
Responsibilities of Position
Manage the daily activities and performance of route drivers
Train, coach, and direct employees to improve their overall performance
Monitor and enforce quality and safety standards and ensure all compliance goals are met or exceeded
Run routes as necessary (absences, vacations, vehicle breakdowns)
Monitor and track employee attendance and all other required documentation relating to performance management
Perform and monitor driver observations and vehicle inspections
Plan, distribute, monitor, and follow-up on daily route assignments to ensure customers are serviced per company standards and agreements
Conduct investigations for accidents, injuries, and property damage claims
Fill in during the absence of other supervisors/office employees or drivers
Perform other duties as assigned by management
Supervisory Responsibility
This position will manage 6-20 employees
This position will not oversee and direct other managers
Skills & Abilities Needed for Position
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to lead and develop a team
Computer skills; working knowledge of Windows applications, Microsoft applications
Proven customer service skills
Knowledge of the area with the ability to read maps
Must be able to work independently, make decisions, and resolve problems
Must have knowledge of DOT/OSHA regulations
Ability to drive a truck with manual transmission, a plus
Experience & Knowledge Needed for Position
Previous management experience is preferred
Previous waste industry experience is a plus
2+ years of truck driving experience is a plus
Physical Requirements in a Regular Workday
Frequently lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 50 lbs
Occasionally lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 100 lbs
Frequently working outside in changing temperatures
Occasionally working in wet/humid conditions
Occasionally working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter
Frequently stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling
Frequently climbing and/or balancing
Frequently sitting/standing/walking
Additional Working Conditions/Aspects
Must have at least a valid Class B CDL
Must have a valid DOT Medical Card or able to obtain prior to hire
Must be at least 19 years of age
No more than 3 moving violations within the last 2 years
Must not have any DUI's or OVI's within the last 5 years or 2 in the last 10 years
Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas
Exposure to residential and commercial waste
Ability to travel between offices, as required
Ability to work flexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as needed
Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays
Must be available for 24-hour emergency calls
Legally eligible to work in the United States
Valid driver's license (if applicable)
Must successfully complete pre-employment testing
Must be able to read and speak the English language
