
District Operations Specialist

Basic Expectations
Staff the Senator’s district office and perform outreach within the member’s district, in conjunction with highly accomplished staff; maintain regular attendance and punctuality; ability to take initiative and work independently; ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team; carries out responsibilities in accordance with office policy and applicable laws; Follows through on information requests, projects, and pending matters with limited direction; works well under pressure and handles stress; accepts performance‑based criticism and direction; works a flexible schedule for official State duties including long hours, nights and weekends; performs other duties as assigned; Ability to lift 20 pounds, and perform work in an office‑type setting as well as in the field, going door‑to‑door to meet constituents, and ability to travel to various in‑district offices and meeting spaces of local elected/appointed officials and others in district.
Constituent Contact and Casework
Directly assists Senators and district office personnel in complex and elevated constituent casework by working with district office staff employees and coordinating issues with State agency personnel; Conduct Mobile Office Hours at the local library or other venue; Direct Constituent Engagement, door‑to‑door and cold‑calling constituents for legislative/community surveys, distribute information to constituents on events and other initiatives as needed; Identify Opinion Makers and Thought Leaders throughout district for member to meet with on regular basis; Assist Events & Engagement Staff with sending out information on local events, and staffing and recruiting for those events (i.e. Coffee and Conversations, Senior Health Fairs, Advisory Councils, etc).
CRM Initiative
Assists with collection and data entry of district‑based constituent information; develop District Office culture to include entering every engagement Senator has with constituents into Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database with appropriate tags; ability to correctly sort contacts and build lists in the CRM; ability to use CRM and compatible field app proficiently out in the field.
Community Relations
Identify and cultivate relationships with key constituency groups and community partners, local stakeholders, and other civic‑oriented groups. Maintains current partnerships; Networks with others on behalf of the member in order to increase the members exposure and reach in the community; Establishing office calendar for community events, and other programs; Speaks to local groups when the Senator is unavailable; Travels throughout the district at regular intervals to keep abreast of local concerns; Meets with elected officials and representatives of local groups on behalf of the Senator; Schedules meetings with local, state and federal government agencies as necessary.
Education/Experience
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in the political science or related field, including strong academic credentials. Alternatively, three (3) years of progressively responsible related experience.
Skills and Knowledge Required
Thorough knowledge of legislative process and of Senate Republican organization and procedures;
Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with others;
Temperament to communicate with a variety of personalities in a tactful, pleasant, and professional manner;
Thorough knowledge of local, state and federal agencies and departments;
An understanding of local, state and federal legislative process;
Provides necessary organization, supervisory leadership and motivation to manage district office(s);
Excellent oral and written communication skills;
Knowledge of the office policies, practices, and procedures;
Knowledge of office computer applications; and
Proficiency in word processing.
Salary and Benefits
Salary $48,000. Modifications depend upon qualifications and experience. Covered under State Employee Retirement System (SERS) State pension and health insurance.
