Open Until Filled GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Driver Services Help Desk Specialist, located in Cheyenne, Wyoming, provides essential support to driver license examiners and staff, as well as commercial and non-commercial drivers, ID card holders, state driver licensing agencies, and the general public. This position serves as a key resource for issuing and transferring driver licenses and identification cards, researching records, and resolving complex problems related to driver credentials. The specialist evaluates and verifies information for accuracy, ensures driving records are current, and confirms compliance with state laws, federal regulations, and agency policies and procedures. Through clear communication, attention to detail, and strong problem-solving skills, this role helps maintain the integrity of driver records while delivering timely and professional customer service. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.
Answer all questions including complex questions regarding the Driver's Services/Driver's License departments.
These positions have a large amount of technical knowledge of the entire Drivers Services organization.
Answer questions from the public without the need to transfer any calls.
First-line of response, answering phones, and are very knowledgeable about each area within the Driver's Services Department as well as the Field offices.
Stay current on statutes and laws in order to answer basic questions for drivers, lawyers, etc.
Liaison with law enforcement, court systems, other states, commercial drivers with regard to drivers services information.
Able to assist any of the sections within Driver Services.
Qualifications

PREFERENCES:
Experience working in driver services, motor vehicle administration, or a related regulatory or customer service environment
Knowledge of state driver licensing laws, federal regulations, and policies related to driver licenses and identification cards
Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with the public, staff, and other state agencies
Demonstrated ability to research, interpret, and evaluate records and documentation for accuracy and compliance
Experience resolving complex issues and providing solutions in a fast-paced, detail-oriented setting
Proficiency with computer systems, databases, and standard office software, with the ability to learn specialized driver services systems
Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a team
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of Wyoming State Statutes and Federal Regulations pertaining to driver license and motor vehicle operation, program rules, regulations, and policies.
Knowledge of program functions and the Driver License Information System.
Knowledge of both the Driving Record Enforcement and Driver Services Examiners Manuals.
Knowledge of accounting procedures relating to balancing money and daily transactions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Associate's Degree (typically in Business) Experience: 0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Business) with acquired knowledge at the level of Drivers Services Specialist OR Education & Experience Substitution: 2-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Business) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Drivers Services Specialist Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: None
Necessary Special Requirements

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Some travel may be required Primarily in office environment

Qualifying eligibility and criteria for the hiring bonus

Current employees are accepting a promotional opportunity, so recruitment must be opened to the public.
One year of service to WYDOT must be completed; failure to complete this requirement will forfeit the hiring incentive, and funds will be recouped from final pay.
Internal candidates would be required to remain in the position for a minimum of one (1) year from their promotion date.
Employees would only be eligible for one (1) hiring bonus in a 12-month period.
All new hires or rehires starting in a non-exempt position on or after January 1, 2018 are required to be paid hourly.
