Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant, COTA Job Description
The Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) supports the Occupational Therapist in implementing resident-specific treatment plans.
Responsibilities
Direct Patient Care: Provides direct treatment to patients in accordance with the established plan of care developed by the supervising Occupational Therapist. Consistently performs at the required productivity level maintaining effective time management according to daily schedule.
Treatment Support: Implement intervention plans, including ADL training, based on the guidance of the Occupational Therapist. Assists with gathering objective data for Section GG collection during Annual, Quarterly, Falls, and Significant Change assessments. Executes assigned screens for residents.
Program development: Active participation in program development and clinical programming. Identify best practices for Occupational Therapy practice and share with Rehab Team.
Monitoring: Observe residents' performance and report any changes or concerns to the supervising Occupational Therapist.
Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely documentation of resident progress and any interventions provided. Comfortable and knowledgeable with Point of Service (POS) care delivery and documentation. Maintain detailed and up-to-date documentation of resident evaluations, treatment plans, daily and progress notes, HMO/Manage care progress updates in EMRs (Net Health/PCC).
Education: Educate residents, family members, and care staff on safe techniques and exercises for continued progress.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate with nursing and other rehab staff, including Physical Therapists and Speech‑Language Pathologists, to provide comprehensive care. Attend and contribute to patient care plan meetings.
Qualifications
Must be COTA certified.
Must be licensed in the state of Missouri.
