Located in South Central Virginia, The Hughes Center is a highly-structured psychiatric residential treatment facility for youth ages 10 to 22 with neurodevelopmental disorders. It also provides private, community-based educational services. The center delivers individualized and holistic care for adolescents and young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a nurturing, family-friendly environment.
We use a multidisciplinary team approach to provide comprehensive evaluations and evidence-based treatment (and educational) interventions with the intent to increase each youth's level of functional independence. Our team works diligently to address or manage medical conditions and challenging behaviors associated with neurodevelopmental disorders, encouraging residents to adapt and apply learned skills in new environments and settings.

The RN is responsible for
Planning, directing, implementing, and evaluating all aspects of nursing care on the assigned unit for residents ages 10‑22.
Ensuring nursing services are provided in accordance with Nursing Standards of Care and the Interdisciplinary Plan of Treatment.
Monitoring, reporting, and documenting residents' behavior and physiological status.
Administering medications and performing treatments/procedures.
Guiding the response to residents who are behaviorally out of control or may be experiencing a medical or behavioral crisis in collaboration with the nurse manager and physician.
Reporting accurately and concisely to oncoming shifts regarding conditions of residents.
Qualifications
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license to practice nursing in the State of Virginia (or eligible to receive or renew).
Current CPR or BLS certification preferred.
Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of hire.
Ability to successfully complete and pass all components of Handle With Care & Verbal De-escalation Crisis Intervention Training.
Ability to use and supervise Handle With Care (HWC) techniques.
Reflect behavior, attitude, and appearance appropriate to the position and supportive of the facility and division philosophy, goals, and objectives.
Effectively communicate both verbally and via written documentation.
