Position Title
Occupational Safety Specialist
Position Purpose
Under the guidance of the Associate Director, EHS, this position is responsible for planning, developing, and managing Occupational Safety Health and Administration (OSHA) occupational and construction compliance programs. It evaluates and analyzes work environments and designs programs and procedures to prevent harm to workers, and promotes a proactive occupational safety culture.
Responsibilities
Identify, design, and administer compliance programs to meet OSHA, NFPA, and NH regulatory agency requirements.
Coordinate with stakeholders to provide guidance on OSHA occupational and construction program policies, training, and inspections.
Analyze data and identify trends and areas for improvement.
Recommend actions regarding microbial growth in Dartmouth buildings.
Manage hazardous building materials in coordination with Residential Operations.
Assist Facilities Operations and Maintenance in the creation and review of Job Hazard Analysis.
Identify appropriate training for OSHA compliance and health and safety programs, ensure training is provided and recorded, and oversee program applicability and effectiveness.
Participate in internal safety committees and task forces.
Demonstrate a commitment to inclusion and cultural awareness through actions and communications.
Participate in division-wide CEB initiatives and training, promoting the 7 Principles.
Foster a growth mindset for improving culture and inclusion.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in the natural or physical sciences, occupational safety, or related field, or equivalent education and experience.
Two to five years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
OSHA general safety 10-hour training and/or OSHA construction 30-hour training, or ability to obtain training within one year.
Knowledge of federal and state occupational regulations, professional standards, and best practices in EHS.
Ability to wear and use protective equipment as required.
Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver safety training.
Valid driver’s license and ability to qualify as an Approved Driver under Dartmouth College Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Policy.
Preferred Qualifications
Professional certification in an EHS discipline.
Knowledge of hazardous materials affecting construction and life & fire safety.
Strong risk assessment and risk communication skills.
Organized and able to follow direction with minimal supervision.
