Position Summary
Research Coordinator - Cardiac Electrophysiology Lab.
Job Responsibilities
Grants - prepares and submits grant applications, develops grant proposals, and participates in fundraising activities if applicable; collects and organizes paperwork for submission; follows up on issues and coordinates resolution of all progress. Reports to sponsors to fund medical research in the division.
Human Subjects’ Research - oversees submission of necessary documents required by the NYU Institutional Board (IRB), NYU Office of Clinical Trials, and other appropriate parties to obtain approval for human subjects research; maintains updated documents and submits monthly enrollment statistics to the Office of Clinical Trials as required.
Study Regulations - maintains up-to-date regulatory documents; assists with informed consent; reminds patients/subjects of visits and compliance; monitors safety issues and reports to Principal Investigator, Physician, and Research Nurse.
Data Management - collects and audits patient information; abstracts data from charts and other sources; audits and manages database entries; prepares forms, reports, analyses, and statistics for studies; conducts study visits and documents information within specified time frames.
Budget - develops preliminary draft budget and submits to Director/Principal Investigator; reviews sponsor-proposed budgets and recommends changes; assists with funding reports; identifies new potential sponsors; monitors budget throughout the trial.
Decision Making and Problem Solving - evaluates information and data to make decisions; resolves complex situations and escalates unsolved issues with recommendations to supervisor.
Participates in special projects and performs other duties as required.
Recruitment - screens potential patients/subjects for eligibility; gathers information from medical records, physician referral, advertisement, and schedules visits; reviews inclusion/exclusion criteria, informed consent, and documentation of willingness to participate.
Clinical Competency - competes in performing EKG, phlebotomy, centrifuge use, specimen handling, storage, and shipping; receives in-house training and certification; maintains proof of ongoing education (10 CEUs).
Continuous Learning - engages in continuing education and professional growth; serves as a resource to peers and collaborates with other disciplines.
Reporting and Analysis - researches, compiles, and consolidates data; conducts preliminary analyses; prepares reports for sponsors and regulators; formulates, prepares database, and generates preliminary measurement reports; completes assessments on study subjects as per protocol.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor degree or equivalent in business administration, health care administration, or related field.
Minimum of two years of progressively responsible project coordination experience, preferably in a research setting.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook) and internet applications.
Effective oral, written, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to interface effectively with all levels of management and to work and communicate effectively with both internal and external customers.
Ability to work within a team environment as well as independently.
Commitment to continuous learning as required by department administration.
Ability to operate research-related equipment.
Time management skills and ability to multitask.
Problem-solving skills: ability to work well under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications
Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) Certification is preferred.
Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
Experience working in an Academic Medical Center.
