Our 164-bed inpatient programs for adolescents through senior adults offer comprehensive assessments, psychiatric evaluation, medication stabilization, daily group therapy, and personalized aftercare planning. We also provide a Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program to ensure continuum of care. Old Vineyard is accredited by The Joint Commission and certified by CMS.
Recreation Therapist (PRN)
This role requires availability for some weekend days. The ideal candidate will have strong multitasking skills, compassionate care for a diverse patient population, and the ability to build positive professional relationships with staff and patients.
Position Summary
The Recreation Therapist is a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team, providing therapeutic recreational and activity services for adolescents and adults under the care of Old Vineyard Behavioral Health Services.
Implements evidence‑based treatment interventions to restore and rehabilitate cognitive, emotional, and social functioning through recreational and activity therapy.
Performs clinical assessments from a recreational therapy perspective and interprets results to establish activity treatment plans.
Maintains clinical and administrative documentation for services rendered, including assessments, group notes, and treatment plans.
Maintains strict confidentiality in accordance with federal law and hospital policy.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must demonstrate competency in the criteria listed in this description. Staff must be flexible for reassignment to units caring for varied populations, including adolescents and adults, and dually diagnosed adults.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
Experience
One year minimum recreation therapy experience; previous experience in a behavioral health field preferred.
Licensure/Certification
Current certification by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation (CTRS) and licensure by the North Carolina Board of Recreational Therapy (LRT).
Physical Requirements
Requires sufficient body mobility to accomplish essential functions; ability to sit and stand for extended periods, bend, stoop, kneel, walk and stand often, speak on the telephone, write legibly and grammatically, and meet normal or corrected vision and hearing. Must communicate effectively verbally and in writing in English and perform CPI physical, verbal, and non‑verbal techniques.
