Under the direction of the Clinic Director, the Medical Assistant (Credentialed/Certified) will perform various clinical and clerical tasks at the South Loop Physician Group Clinic, located at 2600 South Michigan Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60616.

Responsibilities

Register and check all patients in and out of the Clinic. Conduct new patient thorough work‑up, explain new patient packet; take patient vitals (blood pressure, temperature, height, weight, etc.) as needed.

Answer any patient questions; inform physician of abnormal results as needed; perform intake processes such as smoking status, PHQ-2, medication reconciliation, etc.; record history and chief complaint.

Ensure accurate and complete room set‑up for each patient; keep exam rooms clean with linen, testing equipment, etc.; clean and sterilize equipment as required; confirm that the medical record is available for the physician prior to the appointment and that responsibilities are properly handed off once the task is completed.

Perform phlebotomy, collect other lab specimens, perform basic lab tests, and process labs.

Assist providers with paperwork and with MA message pools.

Assist nurses in responding to patient inquiries; assure that information is accurate; refer to the Director or nurse as needed.

Greet all patients, confirm appointments, reschedule appointments, obtain authorizations, and handle insurance information.

Coordinate with other clinics as needed; follow opening and closing protocols to keep the office open in the morning and closed in the afternoon.

Administer vaccines; assist physicians with examinations.

Perform EKG; use CPR skills when necessary; recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations per protocol.

Manage inventory, restock phlebotomy area and exam rooms; contact vendors to place medical supply orders weekly.

Meet established attendance criteria and start work promptly.

Mention punctual and dependable for assigned/confirmed shifts.

Respect and acknowledge the organization’s commitment to cultural diversity; maintain a professional appearance.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, providers, staff, and management.

Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduation or equivalent.

Current/valid certification as a Certified Medical Assistant by an approved certifying board (American Association of Medical Assistant (AAMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCTI), and/or National Health Career Association (NHA)).

Current/valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support CPR Certification.
