Job Summary
The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed care givers who ensure that patients, families, and significant others receive individualized high‑quality, safe patient care. They practice in a clinical environment administered by Nurse Managers and other leaders and are supported through the WellStar Shared Governance Model. The framework for practice is steered by the WellStar Professional Practice Model, 5-Star Nursing, and evidence‑based practice and research. RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by the WellStar Core Competencies. All RN Clinical Nurses are licensed, knowledgeable, and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and implement the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the American Nurses Association. As part of the patient services team, the individual upholds the voice of the patient, system policies, and procedures while supporting service excellence goals.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions
Exemplary Practice and Outcomes (55%)
– Performs the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, identification of outcomes, planning, implementation, and evaluation) using evidence‑based practice, analytical/critical thinking, and individualized care. Coordinates care through effective partnerships, ensuring optimal patient care outcomes. Provides relationship‑based, patient‑centered care adapted to population‑specific characteristics, and always partners with patients and significant others using appropriate methods (e.g., bedside shift report, interdisciplinary rounds). Practices current clinical standards.
Teamwork and Collaboration (25%)
– Coordinates delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care that promotes a professional care delivery model. Uses diverse, inclusive interdisciplinary communication methods, completes timely documentation, and promotes a respectful, inclusive environment. Demonstrates fiscal responsibility, supports recruitment and retention, and participates in performance improvement and shared governance.
Professional Development and Initiative (10%)
– Completes initial and ongoing competency assessments, mandatory and population‑specific education. Serves as a preceptor or mentor to build a qualified workforce, modeling professional nursing practice and fostering a healthy work environment.
Evidence Based Practice and Research (5%)
– Promotes evidence‑based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement. Participates in value analysis, ensures alignment with TJC Patient Safety Goals and WellStar safety standards, collects data, and consults with experts to address practice questions.
Resources and Support (5%)
– Plans patient care across the continuum, participates in protocol development, and supports efficient use of human and material resources.
Required Minimum Education
Graduate of an accredited/approved school of nursing.
Bachelor’s Degree (BSN) from an accredited nursing school.
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s)
Registered Nurse (Single State) or RN – Multi‑state Compact.
Basic Life Support (BLS) – Instructor.
Required Minimum Experience
Minimum 10 years of current direct patient care experience.
Required Minimum Skills
Ability to read, write, and speak English.
Optimize technology use to support clinical care with basic computer skills.
Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and customer‑service skills.
Function in a fast‑paced environment, responding to emergencies decisively and respectfully.
Excellent time‑management and analytical skills.
