
Nurse Practitioner (Psychiatry)

Duties Description
As a Nurse Practitioner (Psychiatry), you will provide psychiatric care for developmentally disabled adult individuals, frequently dual diagnosis individuals. Duties include, but are not limited to: assess, diagnose, and manage the psychiatric needs of these individuals. Maintain documentation, monitoring, electronic health records, and telehealth expectations. Work collaboratively with team to integrate care with specialty providers and other clinicians, and collaborate with the care team for management of individuals’ behavioral needs. This unique position covers 50% telepsych coverage for the Sunmount Developmental Center in Tupper Lake, NY and 50% in‑person outpatient psychiatric care for Capital District adults. Meet usual and customary regulatory guidelines.
Home visits to individuals based on need and circumstance (Capital District only)
Conduct site visits to Sunmount’s Campus Program bi‑annually
Meetings as per department needs and policies
Work in concert with residential nurses, psychologists, and social workers as well as direct‑care staff to provide services
Provide telehealth consults as needed per current telehealth guidelines
Assist with implementing and/or facilitating processes involved with prescribing medications that affect behavior (e.g., Team Psychiatric Medication Review)
Provide telehealth psychiatric consults to individuals residing within Sunmount’s Campus Program (ITO and SRU) and IRAs, including routine follow‑up consults and urgent/emergency consults for individuals experiencing significant psychiatric status changes (e.g., crisis)
Provide psychiatric medication management
Direct and order specialist consultation or referral as indicated
Minimum Qualifications
Open Competitive: New York State License and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse and certification by the New York State Education Department in the Psychiatry specialty area to practice as a Nurse Practitioner.
Transfer: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55‑b/c status in the posted title and be eligible for lateral transfer; or be eligible to transfer via Section 70.1, 70.4, or 52.6 of Civil Service Law. The transfer cannot be a second consecutive transfer resulting in an advancement of more than two salary grades.
Current Civil Service title eligibility for transfer can be verified on the Career Mobility GOT‑IT website.

Starting salary reflects the increased hiring salary and geographic pay differential. Posted hiring salary includes statutory hiring rate for PS&T Grade 24 ($91,298), increased hiring salary ($23,954), and geographic differential ($25,000).

Sick leave: 13 days per year, may carry over
